UK Elite Teams By Season : 1994-95

For the 94/95 season, Doncaster and Workington Town replaced Hull KR and Leigh in the league. 16 teams again was the number of clubs represented in the top Flight.

The League. Wigan went unbeaten at home and had just two losses on the road to take the title with 56 points. Leeds weren't too far behind on 49 points, with Castleford (42), St Helens (41), Halifax and Warrington with 38 apiece. Doncaster and Hull FC were the cellar dwellars with just 11 and 15 points respectively.

The Challenge Cup. In the quarter finals, the scores were Leeds 50-16 Workington; Oldham 23-12 Huddersfield; Whitlehaven 14-42 Featherstone; Widnes 12-26 Wigan.

On to the semi finals and Wigan were predictably too strong for Oldham, 48-20 while Leeds dispatched Featherstone 39-22. 78,500 went to Wembley to witness Wigan triumph 30-10 over Leeds.

The League Cup. The quarters went this way: Wigan 24-22 Saints;
Leeds 14-34 Castleford; Widnes 23-10 Bradford; Keighley 18-20 Warrington.

The semis went with Wigan 34-6 Castleford and Warrington 30-4 Widnes. Wigan took the silverware with a solid 40-10 victory against Warrington. 17,500 came to the McAlpine Stadium to spectate.

The Premiership Finals. In the first round the results were Leeds 50-30 Bradford;
Castleford 22-30 Warrington: St Helens 32-16 Halifax; Wigan 48-16 Sheffield.

The semis had contrasting results, Wigan overpowering Warrington 50-20 and Leeds just getting past Saints 30-26. 30,000 were at Old Trafford for the final and only one result was on the cards, a Wigan victory. It turned out a 69-12 rout of Leeds.

Summary: Without a salary cap, Wigan was far ahead of the other sides in the quality of personnel. It was a case of who would come second. Wigan took the quadruple without breaking into a sweat. That gave them a maximum 76 points according to my way of scoring the teams.

After daylight came Leeds (54 points) with a second in the league and two finals losses. Warrintton made the league cup final and had a consistent year to take 35 points. St Helens and Castlford received 30 points each.
